WHAT TYPE OF SAW SHOULDI USE TO CUT WOOD FOR DOLLHOUSE?

NUBIAN QUEEN Asked: WHAT TYPE OF SAW SHOULDI USE TO CUT WOOD FOR DOLLHOUSE?

I want to make cabinets for my daughter for her kitchen and I need tips and pointers on the best type of wood to use and what type of inexpensive saw I could get to cut just some basic rectangular shapes. Also if you all know of any basic woodworking websites, books or Dvd/Cd''s please do tell!I really appreciate all the help inadvance.

The best advise I could give you is to buy something pre cut and assemble it yourself. Cutting out cabinets is not easy, and if you have no experience you may really hurt yourself badly. They should be cut on a table saw.Is this for a dollhouse, or a kitchen ? For a dollhouse maybe even a very good utility knife and a ruler.

Danny B Answered:
You're going to be making LOTS of cuts, so try to find a used powersaw — either a jigsaw or circular saw.

Jim W Answered:
For wood working sites use your search in Dogpile or Google. For cabinets for a dol house, use cardboard or thin balsa wood. Both can be cut with anXacto knife or a box knife.

Working Wood 1: The Artisan Course with Paul Sellers (DVD). WOODWORKING ESSENTIALS 2

Woodworking Essentials 2 (1hr 27min DVD) teaches you the crucial elements to successful joinery, as well as the essential tools and techniques. In this 1hr 27min DVD, Paul shows you how to make The Three Joints™ — the joints you will need throughout your woodworking life — and demonstrates their application in every area of fine woodworking. Few woodworkers explore the creative sphere of hand tool joinery, yet many strive to create the superlative designs this aspect of woodworking allows. Paul Sellers has successfully trained thousands of woodworkers through a simple step-by-step curriculum developed to restore the art of hand-cut joinery for woodworkers of any background and all skill levels. Paul explores the historical context of joinery, showing its use in historic buildings, including Penrhyn Castle's internal structure and furniture, as well as immigrant ships that journeyed to the USA. Woodworking Essentials 2 introduces steps that guarantee perfect joints every time — joints that last for centuries. Mastering the housing dado, dovetail, and mortise and tenon joints begins by understanding the function and use of ten basic hand tools. Paul shows you how to use them to their fullest potential and demonstrates the construction of each joint in exactly the same way he teaches his students and apprentices. The art of joint making enables woodworkers to expand their work, yet many woodworkers feel intimidated by the joint-making process. As a lifelong woodworker and …

Where can i buy rustic cherry lumber?

Danny Lee Asked: Where can i buy rustic cherry lumber?

I have no knowledge of woodworking or d.I.y. wood projects but I want to make a magnetic knife rack and while researching it I found out that I need cherry hardwood or lumber. I would prefer rustic cherry because i figure it would look nicer than a plain block of wood would look. Do they sell this kind of wood at lowes or home depot? Can I just buy a 24" long slab of it at the hardware store or do they make you buy a whole long piece of wood?

Answers:

Jeff D Answered:
I'm not sure what you mean by "rustic cherry" (vs. "cherry"), but most home stores have a limited selection of hardwoods. If by "slab" you mean 1" finished stock (3/4" actual), then they might have a few pieces. For anything exotic, long, thick or in quantity you'll have to go somewhere that specializes in hardwoods (usually a local lumberyard or sawmill). For a smallish, single piece (where shipping charges won't be excessive) you might even look online (woodworkerssource.com for example).

XTX Answered:
=== look in your area for a specialty lumber and hardware store== you might be able to find mahogany or oak that can be stained to cherry=== you might also look in the Lowe's etc. for a shelf wood that you can use that is already stained aand you add the magnetics

they sell wood (including salvaged antique wood) to DIY people for various projects. You could also do better at a lumber yard than at a Home Depot (not sure about Lowe's). Their wood types are limited and usually the sizes and quality are too.
